My #tbt photo is this gem from 1997. We were young, in love, and healthy. Now we are not as young, still in love, and very unhealthy. There’s only one of those things that needs to change. Can you guess which one? 😕
I sat down and made a list of the reasons why we are so unhealthy. But you know what… That list wasn’t reasons. They were excuses. We’ve been through so much. I could write a series of books on all the things we’ve been through. Any one of these things could have done us in. But we held on.
Now, I’m going to be totally honest and transparent here (which is so against my nature. I’m very private and introverted) I am so unhealthy that I’ve literally taken years off my life. I know many people don’t care for the BMI charts, but you know what? It has opened my eyes. My BMI is 35! I’m obese. That hit me like a ton of bricks. Then, a few days ago, I had Kathleen take photos of me so I can compare. You know, the famous before and after photos fillings everyone’s IG and Facebook feeds… I was so shocked. I mean, yes I had looked at the scale and saw my BMI, but looking at those photos took it to a whole new level. I’m so embarrassed at how I look.
So here’s what I’m doing:
1. A kick-butt training program, with one of the best, most successful trainers in the business!
2. Following a nutrition plan that is totally planned out for me
3. A big one for me: portion control! No more guessing if I have too many carbs or not enough fruits and veggies.
4. I saved the best for last: accountability , encouragement, and someone who genuinely cares.
I’m not taking this lightly any more. I have 7 kids who need me. I have a son who will most likely never be able to live independently. I have a wife I love dearly. They need me to be here, and be healthy. And I need me to be healthy!
